Journey to Old House Restoration
I have been interested in taking apart, fixing, and building things for as long as I can remember. When I was a kid, I loved puzzles, putting things together, discovering how things worked. I found it a challenge to put something together without having to read the instructions (not always successfully). I was always helping my dad on a woodworking project or putting something together. As I got older, my parents let me paint my own room. During college, on my breaks at home, I made it my mission to “decorate a room”. Changing a light, painting, making curtains. Eventually, pulling up carpeting to uncover hardwood floors. Then renovating my own house as a adult.
Edward grew up watching his dad, a carpenter work each day and eventually helping him on jobs when he was teenager. He’s always been “handy” and a great problem solver. His face lights up when he finds a solution to what seems to be an impossible problem. Now he’s a carpenter/project manager for a local construction company.
We make a great team to create something functional, beautiful, and unique. So we decided to find an old house and use our combined talents to bring it back to life on a small budget. After several failed attempts, we found an 1800’s house that had been owned by someone who clearly loved the house, but did not have the means or resources to maintain it. She had received another offer on the house in addition to ours, so we wrote a letter explaining our intentions to restore the house and preserve it for years to come. The next day, we found out that she chose our offer and our restoration journey began!
